Should you move from Squarespace Email Campaign to FloDesk? (Personal Review and Comparison)

Ok, we all know I love Squarespace so naturally, I had to try out their Email Campaign Marketing - which I did for a good few months! And then, I started to see FloDesk popping up everywhere and being recommended by some of my favourite creative entrepreneurs (like Jenna Kutcher for one!). Couldn't hurt to try it 30 days for free?!

Here is my verdict and comparison review of these two email marketing platforms. In this article, I'll share with you my personal experiences with both of these email marketing platforms and which one I would recommend for creatives and bloggers.

Pssst...do you want website leads on autopilot?

1. Pros and Cons of Squarespace Email Campaign

Squarespace Email Campaign is a brilliantly designed and executed idea. I love the seamless integration with publishing blog posts - you can share that blog post with your subscribers in just one click! The email templates are stunning (as are all Squarespace templates) and your email newsletters go out looking so professional!

The major disadvantages of Squarespace and what ultimately led me to jump ship were:

  1. No segmentation or list organisation - which means you cant categories or tag subscribers in your list. This means you can't target specific groups to promote a product, distribute various opt-ins, etc.

  2. No Workflow Sequences - this means you can't create and automate a series of emails to be sent to a new subscriber. eg.Person subscribes > They receive their opt-in freebie > The next day they receive a welcome email > A few days later they receive a helpful article > Then they get added to your primary list.

  3. There is actually a cap on the number of 'blocks' you can have on your newsletter! I reached that one time when I was creating a list of 9 resources and inserted multiple 'buttons', spacer-blocks and 'image blocks'. So yes, I wasn't too impressed by that limitation.

With that in mind, if you're just starting out and you have a super small email list, then you won't be missing those features. However, as your email list grows or you're offering multiple opt-ins and services or products, then having segmentation and workflow sequence features are essential!

2. Pros and Cons of Flodesk for Email Marketing

Oh if you think Squarespace email templates are beautiful... wait till you see the ones in Flodesk!!! As a creative, I am SO attracted by their gorgeous layouts and font options!

I also love how intuitive it is to use (kinda like Squarespace), you just drag and drop! This lets me spend more time on the design aspect and less time on tech hassle.

It also has what Squarespace doesn't have: workflow sequences and segmentation!! They also recently introduced double opt-ins which you can customise the who message yourself!

The analytics and email statistics for Flodesk has been a GAME CHANGER! You can see so much in-depth information about each individual subscriber like: % of emails opened, click through rate, what device they prefer to read on, etc.

What about the disadvantages? Well, considering they are still very new to the market, they are constantly rolling out new beta features. At the moment they still lacking advanced features like:

  • A/B split testing

  • advanced e-commerce integration

  • integration with platforms like Squarespace

And lastly... let's talk about the price point!

3. Price Comparison: Squarespace Email vs FloDesk

Squarespace Email Campaigns start off at $5 a month (if paying annually), but you can only send out 3 campaigns per month (which is just shy of once a week newsletters).

However, you're most likely going to need email automation at some point and send out more than 3 campaigns per month. So let's just say that most people would start out with the Core plan - $9 per month (or $13 if paying monthly).

Still, you have a cap on the number of campaigns per month and number of emails per month.

Let's take a look at FloDesk

Currently, Flodesk has just ONE price plan across the board - regardless of how many subscribers you bring over. Whether it's 25 or 2500 subscribers, everyone pays a fixed price of $38 a month.

Well, not everyone. Some of us get 50% off (for life) and the best part is we get to share our personal codes with you too! Sign up with my Flodesk discount code for 50% off - for one year!!

Or just type in this 50% off code at checkout: AROHAVISUALS

How crazy is that? Just $19 a month for unlimited subscribers, unlimited emails and campaigns, subscriber segmentation, workflow sequences, email automation and deep analytics!

If you compare $13 for Squarespace's Core Plan with $19 for FloDesk if you use my discount code, that's just an extra $6 a month for all those extra bonuses!

4. Squarespace Email Marketing or Flodesk: my recommendation

Honestly, they are both fantastic but they suit different needs and depends on where you are at with your business. Generally speaking though, Squarespace Email Campaigns are great for those just starting their email list and wanting to dip their toes in Email marketing.

In the end, I ended up switching from Squarespace Email Campaign to FloDesk. The main reason being that I could see FloDesk growing with my business and its needs. I'm also optimistic that FloDesk will roll out A/B testing at some more and more integrations.

With FloDesk, I also feel like I have more room to experiment, trial and error, create new sequences and not feel limited by the price plan I'm on.

Growing an email list is super important to me and I plan to put more love and effort into my emails newsletters this year!

So I love how Flodesk doesn't punish people for growing their email list (and business) and instead encourage everyone to share the love of beautiful email templates!
